Tilray Brands, a Canadian-based multinational cannabis, alcohol and drug distribution company, is laying off about a quarter of its staff at its medical marijuana plant in Cantanhede, Portugal. Tilray's Portuguese operation employs about 200 people, according to a company spokesperson. "These changes will occur over the next three months and are consistent with Tilray's reasonable adjustments to meet current economic needs and the legalization status of medical and adult-use cannabis." Tilray announced it will build its Portugal facility in 2017 to serve the EU medical cannabis market. The company merged with Canadian competitor Aphria in 2021. The new combined Tilray also operates a medical marijuana plant in Germany. tilray recently reported a net loss of $61.6 million for the quarter ended Nov. 30.
