Louisiana Democratic Gov. John Bel Edwards signed several bills this past week that would support the state's medical marijuana industry by allowing more dispensaries and allowing out-of-state residents to purchase marijuana properties. The introduction of smokable cannabis flower in Louisiana this year has driven the need to expand the number of dispensaries. Marijuana cultivation in the state will continue to be closely controlled by Louisiana State University and Southern University, both of which have contracts with private companies. 2022 MJBiz Factbook projects that Louisiana marijuana sales will double this year to $90 million to $100 million.
