Starting next month, Google will no longer be banned from advertising certain industrial hemp and CBD products in parts of the United States. The Internet giant announced last week that it will update its "dangerous products and services, as well as healthcare and pharmaceuticals" to allow hemp ads in California, Colorado and Puerto Rico. As of Jan. 20, 2023, Google said that Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved drugs containing cannabidiol and "topical cannabis-derived CBD products with a THC content of 0.3 percent or less" can be advertised in those jurisdictions. Apple is quicker to normalize cannabis apps, and the company lifted a similar ban in 2021.
