One of the pressing items on federal lawmakers' 2023 to-do list is updating the Farm Bill. the 2018 Farm Bill, which legalized industrial hemp and sparked a boom in delta-8 THC and other psychoactive industrial hemp-derived cannabinoids, is set to expire in September. The federal hemp ban means the U.S. hemp industry still exists separately from the federal farm program and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Nonetheless, Washington, D.C., is increasingly pushing Congress to consider hemp reform during farm bill discussions, according to multiple lobbyists and a federal lawmaker. To date, 14 states have banned delta-8 products altogether. in late January, the u.s. Food and Drug Administration announced that regulating CBD is outside its current authority and that a new regulatory framework is needed. the FDA noted, "the agency is prepared to work with Congress on this matter."
