Cambodia's fresh mango exports reached 161000 tons in the first seven months of this year, a year-on-year increase of 248%, the Ministry of agriculture, forestry and Fisheries of Cambodia said on the 5th.
According to the Ministry of agriculture, forestry and Fisheries of Cambodia, mangoes are mainly exported to seven countries and regions, of which Vietnam is the largest export destination (140000 tons), followed by Thailand (20000 tons), China (211 tons) and South Korea (124 tons).
In May this year, the first ceremony of Cambodia's mango export to China was held. Mango has become a fresh fruit that Cambodia can directly export to China after bananas. Cambodia said that the export of fresh mango to China is another achievement made by China's strong support for Cambodia's development of modern agriculture, which is of positive significance for increasing Cambodia's agricultural and industrial income, improving people's livelihood, and promoting the development of Cambodia's cold chain logistics industry and ports.
The Ministry of agriculture, forestry and Fisheries of Cambodia estimates that in the early stage after successfully entering the Chinese market, Cambodia is expected to export a large number of grade fresh mangoes to China every year, accounting for about 10% of Cambodia's annual mango production.
At the same time, according to the data released by the Ministry of agriculture, forestry and Fisheries of Cambodia, Cambodia's banana export reached 270000 tons in the first seven months of this year, a year-on-year increase of 61%. Since its successful export to China in May 2019, Cambodia's banana export has continued to show a good momentum. In 2020, the total export volume increased to US $112 million, a year-on-year increase of 128%.
The Ministry of agriculture, forestry and Fisheries of Cambodia pointed out that Cambodia and China signed a bilateral free trade agreement. After the agreement comes into force, it will further promote the development of Cambodia's agriculture and attract more foreign direct investment to produce and process agricultural products for export to the huge Chinese market.
