Bulgaria's National Radio reported on October 12 that the final agricultural output value of Bulgaria in 2020 was 7.87 billion LEVs, a decrease of 4.5% over 2019. The decline was mainly due to a decline in output of 11.0% and an increase in product prices of 7.3%. The output value of crops is 5.238 billion LEV, accounting for 66.6% of the total agricultural output value. Grain (2608.5 million Lev) and cash crops (1667 million Lev) account for 81.6% of the crop output value. Compared with 2019, the output decreased by 16.0%, offsetting the 10.6% increase in product prices, and the total output value of crops decreased by 7.0%. The main reason for the decrease of crop yield is that the yield decline caused by long-term drought leads to the decline of grain and cash crops.
Livestock production in 2020 was 1.962 billion leves, accounting for 24.9% of the final agricultural production. Compared with 2019, livestock production increased by 2.7%, which is due to the increase of 2.0% in quantity and 0.7% in price. Compared with 2019, the output value of agricultural services decreased by 6.1%, while the output value of secondary non-agricultural activities increased by 2.6%. The increase in output from secondary non-agricultural activities was due to a 4.6 per cent increase in prices.
In 2020, the value of agricultural consumer goods and services was 4446.6 million lefs, a decrease of 6.9% over 2019. The decrease was due to a 5.1% decrease in production and a 1.9% decrease in prices. In 2020, the total added value of agriculture will be 3419.5 billion lefs (calculated at basic prices), a decrease of 1.1% over 2019.
