The wheat area in Britain will increase year-on-year in 2022

Foreign media news on November 21: according to the planting survey released by the British agricultural and horticultural development board (ADHB) on Friday, due to favorable planting conditions and soaring prices, the wheat area in Britain is expected to increase to 1.81 million hectares in 2022, an increase of 1.3% over 2021.

ADHB said that considering the favorable autumn weather conditions and the current high price of feed wheat in the UK, the increase of wheat planting area is not surprising for many people. Feed wheat prices in the UK have risen to a nine-year high because of tighter global supply. However, the favorable sowing conditions in autumn may lead to the reduction of barley area in spring. In 2022, the spring barley area in the UK will decrease by 7.7% year-on-year to 688000 hectares.

In 2022, the rapeseed area in the UK will increase by 12.9% year-on-year to 345000 hectares, which is also driven by the high global rapeseed prices. ADHB said that because the forward price of rapeseed was attractive, many people had expected a higher increase in sown area. However, the high cost of production input and the problem of cabbage stem beetle may limit the growth of rapeseed area in the UK.
