Four industrial marijuana companies in Texas have asked the state's high court to lift a statewide ban on the use of industrial marijuana and retain their ability to sell products in high demand. The state Supreme Court heard the argument that Texas legislators legalized the production of industrial marijuana in 2019 but prohibited companies from converting industrial marijuana into smoking flower and leaf products, but Texas's smoking industrial marijuana ban has not been implemented so far. The case will determine whether industrial marijuana producers in the second most populous state in the United States can enter an industry that can generate $400 million in annual sales by 2025. In 2020, nielseniq, an analytical giant, predicted that the U.S. market for edible industrial marijuana would grow to $300 million to $400 million by 2025.
