According to a news released by the Russian Ministry of Economic Development, the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission convened on July 14 to approve it.
The Russian Ministry of Economic Development stated that the adoption of measures to develop the Eurasian Economic Union's Organic Agriculture Union will help develop the export potential of the member states of the Union and improve the competitiveness of overseas markets. Russia's "Organic Agricultural Production Law" has come into effect on January 1, 2020. The law prohibits the use of agrochemicals, insecticides, antibiotics, animal promotors, and hormone preparations, except in cases permitted by Russia, the Eurasian Economic Union and international standards. The law also prohibits the use of embryo transfer technology, cloning technology and genetic engineering methods, genetic engineering modification and genetically modified biological technology, and products produced using genetic engineering modified and genetically modified biological technology.
In May 2021, the Russian Ministry of Agriculture stated that it is formulating an organic agricultural production strategy. The Agricultural Export Center under the Russian Ministry of Agriculture previously stated that from 2015 to 2019, the global organic agricultural product market grew at an average annual rate of 9%, with a market size of more than 120 billion U.S. dollars. It is expected that the next few years will show faster growth, and by 2021-2025, the market size will reach 200 billion US dollars.
