Marijuana TV ads may be protected by FCC under new bill in Congress

Marijuana companies may soon have the option of placing TV ads without fear of federal intervention under a new bill introduced by the U.S. House Appropriations Committee. According to MediaPost, the House committee recently gave initial approval to the measure - the Financial Services and General Government Appropriations Act of 2023 - and the massive spending measure includes protection for broadcasters in states where marijuana has been legalized states from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Currently, the FCC has the power to revoke the broadcast licenses of TV and radio stations that air marijuana ads because marijuana has not been fully liberalized at the federal level.
