German Hemp Imports Increase

Germany imported record amounts of cannabis for medical sales and scientific use in the first half of the year, putting the EU's largest market on track to reach or exceed its 2021 total. The data also show that Canada's role as the country's largest supplier has diminished as competition to supply the German market has increased, with cannabis companies from Denmark, the Netherlands and Portugal also supplying the German market. Imports of dried flowers and extracts amounted to 10,487 kg (11.6 tons) through the first six months of 2022, 6.1 percent higher than the 9,840 kg imported in the first half of last year, according to the Federal Institute for Drug Research.For all of 2021, Germany imported 20,589 kg of cannabis for medical and scientific purposes, up sharply from 13,346 kg in 2020. Germany imported about 8,057 kilograms of cannabis in 2019.
