Cannabis food sales nearly tripled from 2018 to 2022, increasing by nearly $535 million to more than $1.4 billion, according to Headset, a Seattle-based cannabis industry analyst firm. These increased sales are being driven by new cannabis consumers who are reluctant to try combustible products, as well as long-time cannabis users seeking more variety and matching products. As with other cannabis categories, consumers are showing a preference for less expensive but more potent products.
Proven winners Meanwhile, fudge is the preferred edible food, accounting for nearly 77 percent of cannabis food sales this year, according to Headset. Nationally, caramels, chews and toffees were the second most popular food products, followed by chocolate, which saw a nearly 25 percent decline in sales in 2022. The two largest fudge brands are Wyld of Oregon and Wana of Colorado.
