According to the data provided by the Ontario alcohol and Gambling Commission (AGCO), as of May 2, 1468 marijuana stores had opened in Ontario, and another 445 store authorization applications are under review. If all these applications are successful, there may be as many as 1913 marijuana stores in Canada's largest provincial marijuana market. This has exacerbated concerns that a surplus of retailers could force many operators to close this year. According to AGCO, since June 2021, 32 cannabis retailers in Ontario have been closed and their store authorization has been cancelled, indicating that some retailers are withdrawing from the business.
