Alabama sets fees and timeline for medical marijuana licensing

It will cost businesses $2,500 to apply for a medical marijuana business license in Alabama, and the application window will open on Sept. 1. Business owners can apply for a license between Sept. 1 and Oct. 22, according to the Alabama Medical Marijuana Commission website. After a period of corrections and public comment, initial license recipients will be announced on June 12, 2023. According to the Alabama Medical Cannabis Commission (MCC), vertically integrated operations will receive five licenses, and each vertically integrated licensee will be allowed to own five dispensaries. The other license types are: 12 cultivation licenses, four processing licenses, and four dispensary sales licenses, with each licensee allowed to operate three dispensaries. the MCC also plans to issue transportation licenses and testing lab licenses. Each applicant can only apply for one type of license.
